Physician Communication Skills For Patient-Centered Care
RedBikeInternational’s Business Innovationists have developed two cutting-edge training programs for Health Care Clinicians.
These training programs are designed in accordance with the best practices of effective communications training programs for clinicians, in which training is intensive, experiential-based, uses multiple pedagogical methods, allows for practical rehearsal and feedback, and provides clinicians the opportunity to work in groups with skilled facilitators. Pre and post assessments are used to guide development efforts.
Physician Communication Skills For Patient-Centered Care
A substantial amount of evidence demonstrates that patient-centered communication has a positive impact on important outcomes including patient satisfaction, adherence to recommended treatment, and self-management of chronic disease (Levinson et al, 2010). In addition, recent research provides compelling evidence that such communication improves clinical outcomes in the management of diabetes, hypertension, and cancer (Levinson et al, 2010).
Conversely, breakdowns in communication are a contributing factor in the majority of malpractice actions (Flaherty, 2002). Patients’ most frequent complaints are that physicians do not listen to their concerns, care about their problems, or provide enough information about their treatment. (Levinson et al, 2010).
This training focuses on specific tools that physicians can use to enhance their patient-centered care.
Our program is organized in accordance with the Goleman-Boyatzis model of Social-Emotional Intelligence and includes a four-part series focusing on:
- Self Awareness
- Self Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Management
